How Much Does It Cost?

Pricing Options for

Kandersteg/Grindelwald, Switzlerand, July 12-22, 2011

  • Dorm room (5-12 beds): $1,995 per person
  • Semi-private room (3-4 beds): $2,095 per person
  • Double room (2 beds): $2,195 per person
  • Single room (1 bed): $2,295 per person

Group discounts are available for groups of 6 or more people. Contact us for more information.

Which option should you take? If you’re traveling as a larger group, you might prefer the fellowship of the dorm area. If you need lots of privacy, you should opt for a single room (if you’re traveling by yourself) or a double room (if you’re traveling as a pair). There are other options available. For example, one of our hostels offers a “comfort room” at a slightly higher price. Call or e-mail us for details or if you have any questions.

These rates are subject to availability. If your first choice of accommodation is sold out or otherwise unavailable, we’ll do our best to fulfill your request with the next best option.

Price includes lodging, all breakfasts and dinners, selected lunches, train tickets to all of the scheduled stops on the itinerary, entrance fee to the High Ropes Park in Kandersteg, and any cablecars, gondolas or busses taken to reach the starting points of the hikes.

Price does not include airfare, selected lunches, snacks, drinks with your dinners, any dinner order above and beyond the preset menu established for the group, personal purchases (souvenirs, etc.), laundry expenses, phone calls, excess luggage charges, optional sightseeing activities, independent travel, insurance, any activities and entertainment not on the scheduled itinerary.

Why don’t we include airfare? It would sure be nice to put everything under one big price. However, you and your fellow hikers will be traveling to Switzerland from all over the United States. Flights from the West Coast don’t cost the same as flights from the East Coast.

Plus, you or some of your fellow hikers might want to explore the wonders of other European countries while you're on the other side of the ocean. Booking your own flight gives you the flexibility of extending your vacation by arriving earlier or staying later.

That said, we'll be more than happy to give you tips on booking your flight, including when to book, which airports to use, how to get a good fare, etc. We don't do the actual booking for you—that's your bit of fun—but we'll help as much as we can.

How much does it cost if I want to design my own custom hiking vacation? Obviously that depends on where you want to go, how long you want to be there, and what kind of accommodations you'd like. We believe we can offer you a competitive price _ just give us a call or send us an e-mail.

We think we’re reasonably affordable. Of course, you’re more than welcome to compare our prices with other hiking opportunities in Switzerland. There are lots of them out there, from high-end vacations that feature four-star hotels to other family-run hiking businesses.

Why are our prices so competitive? We’re a family business. We offer personal service without a lot of overhead. We’re not doing this to make a ton of money—we’re doing this because we love to hike, and we love to share with others the joys of hiking in beautiful Switzerland.

Another major reason for lower prices is our emphasis on using hostels—rather than pricier inns, B&Bs or hotels—for our accommodations. Hostels are wonderful places to meet new fellow travelers, with common areas that add to the social experience of your vacation. Swiss hostels are renowned for their outstanding quality, and they offer great value—whether you choose a private room or a shared room with other hikers.
